Government ignores its own rules
The Federation of Small Businesses says the government is failing to meet its commitments to common commencement dates and to reduce regulatory burdens. The common dates were designed to make the regulatory environment more predictable, but the government continues to introduce new regulations throughout the year. No less than 82 new pieces of business legislation were introduced in April but other major changes will be implemented outside this framework including the London Low Emission Zone and changes to the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act. The government's own survey of the impact of red tape found that over 90,000 SMEs would be inhibited from growing because of additional bureaucracy.
