Hobbies are providing an ever-increasing source of ideas for would-be entrepreneurs as people turn their passion into business. Figures for 2007 show a 15 per cent increase in gardening and horticulture services. Construction has also proven popular as DIY fans turn their weekend skills into profits. A total of 415,000 new companies were formed last year - a small increase over 2006 but with rapid rises in sectors associated with hobbies and past times. A significant number of new entrepreneurs were over 65 who were combining their leisure activities with making more money.
