New ideas 'stifled in workplace'

The UK is full of inventive, creative people, but there are too many barriers to putting ideas into practice. The National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (Nesta) says that many people believe that new ideas can be stifled in the workplace. That is despite the national tendency for inventiveness, it says. In Nesta's latest poll, 43% of people think there is a culture in the UK in which people prefer new ventures to fail rather than succeed. A further 66% think that not enough is being done in the education system to encourage innovation and creativity while 65% believe there are not enough resources or investment available to innovators. The government, meanwhile, is planning to change the tax systems for science and technology as a new incentive for innovation.
