Demand for both permanent and temporary staff continues to rise

Published: 17 November 2015

Select Appointments, one of the UK’s largest staffing companies and recruitment franchisors, has welcomed the news from the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) that demand for both permanent and temporary staff grew again in October.
In more good news, the Office for National Statistics has revealed that the UK unemployment rate fell to a seven-year low of 5.3% between July and September 2015. The number of people out of work fell by 103,000 to 1.75 million. There were 31.21 million people in work, 177,000 more than in the previous quarter and 419,000 more than in same period last year.
The REC’s latest Report on Jobs also found that vacancies continued to rise at a marked pace in October and that salaries continued to go up. The availability of staff to fill permanent job roles fell further, although easing to its slowest rate since January.
Suzie McCafferty, managing director of Select Appointments, explains: “Again the latest stats from the REC is good news for the industry, more and more businesses are looking to hire both permanent and temporary staff and wages are being driven up as competition increases. More jobs being created is also good news for the unemployment rate, which reached a seven-year low in the last quarter. Let’s hope the good news keeps on coming.”
