Sally Appleby, Owner of Magical Maths Derby is experiencing rapid growth and is set to help a phenomenal 2,112 children during her first year of fun maths sessions. Ms Appleby launched in the Derby area in April of this year after her incredible passion for helping youngsters led her to offering Magical Maths fun session to local primary schools.
“The response from local schools has been incredible” said Sally after 28% of Derby city schools signed up for her sessions in just 11 weeks. “It isn’t stopping either, teachers keep ringing me to book! It looks like over half of schools in Derby will be booked by the summer holidays, at which time I’ll be fully booked and will be putting schools onto a waiting list.”
Christine Parker, the Headteacher at nearby Holy Hill Infant School where Magical Maths sessions have been running, thinks all school students will really enjoy what Magical Maths have to offer. “Our children have really enjoyed Magical Maths and I think other students will too!” she says. “One of our students would ask every, single day whether it was Magical Maths day yet!”
The overwhelming demand has led to Sally expanding into the much larger Derbyshire region - meaning 389 more schools will have the opportunity to book her sessions. An exciting opportunity indeed for forward thinking Derbyshire primary schools!
It means an estimated 56,000 extra primary students will have the chance to experience Professor Poopenshtinken’s magical extravaganza.
“The most gratifying part of running Magical Maths has been the reaction of parents and children. Knowing that I’m making a genuine difference to children’s engagement with maths and helping to enhance their future means so much.” Ms Appleby continued.
Edith West, a year 5 student at Cherry Tree Primary School in Derby said "I enjoyed all the games and quizzes in Magical Maths ... it has helped me a lot in Maths :). I think everyone should at least try Magical Maths. It is Fun!"
Sarah Capper a parent who’s two children attended Magical Maths Monyash Primary School in Derbyshire said "My children, Harry and Beth have loved the Magical Maths sessions and hope they can do it again soon. Beth has been buzzing with numbers whenever we are at home or out and about doing sums asking questions and especially liked the parachute games. Harry feels it has helped him get better with times tables and liked ‘heads and tales’ and ‘beach ball maths’ the best. They both really liked the guys who did the sessions and the fun they had."
