One in four Brits vow to drink less at the Christmas party to avoid embarrassing themselves

Well, it wouldn’t be Christmas without the merriment. A new survey has revealed that one in four Brits have vowed to ‘drink less’ at this year’s office Christmas party to avoid embarrassing themselves, while one in 10 employees have admitted drinking so much alcohol that they couldn’t turn up for work the next day. Oh dear, maybe there is such a thing as having too much fun.
And it appears many staff will be bringing some mistletoe with them. The survey by Igniyte and The Leadership Factor found that in 10 Brits are planning on telling a co-worker they like them at this year’s Christmas party, while almost 30 per cent of UK employees have flirted with a work colleague at an office party.
The research into employee behaviour at office Christmas parties has also revealed how the various sectors behave:
- One in 10 property employees have received a written or verbal warning following their behaviour at an office Christmas party, and eight per cent have even been fired.
- Forty per cent of travel employees have admitted they’ve flirted with a work colleague with almost 42 per cent admitting they’ve kissed a co-worker at the office Christmas party.
- An ashamed 14 per cent of energy and utilities employees admitted they have been dumped following their behaviour at an office Christmas party, compared with a four per cent all-sector average.
- A further 14 per cent of energy and utilities employees are going to use the office Christmas party this year to confront a colleague or tell them they don’t like them! Eeek...
- A well-behaved 36 per cent of marketing and advertising employees are on target to be the most well behaved at their party this year, stating they’re going to drink much less alcohol than the year before to avoid embarrassment.
Our tips for this year’s festivities include drinking lots of water, changing your Facebook settings to avoid being tagged in any unseemly photos, or just stay at home with a nice safe cup of tea…
