The Manchester borough has seen an 85.4 per cent year-on-year increase for new business, well ahead of second place Leicester, which observed year-on-year change of 34.5 per cent.
A total of 1,393 new startups were launched in Salford in the first quarter of 2017, up from 751 in Q1 2016. Startup growth for the full year, meanwhile, saw 2,850 companies open locally in 2016, which is forecast to hit 5,286 this year.
Norwich was in third place with 22.1 per cent, while Liverpool and Oxford rounded off the top five.
