Monkey Music celebrates 20 years of franchising

Published: 26 July 2017

Children’s musical tuition franchise Monkey Music is celebrating 20 years of franchising in the UK.

Monky Music

Founder and CEO Angie Coates, who was one of the first female franchisors to join the British Franchise Association (bfa), is marking the milestone by launching a new initiative designed to offer more people the opportunity to open their own Monkey Music franchise.

Angie got the inspiration to start her business after deciding that exposure to music would be beneficial for her newborn child but struggled to find music classes.

As a musician and teacher herself, she wrote a musical curriculum that supported all aspects of early child development. She opened the first Monkey Music branch in South East London in 1993, which was attended by her own daughter and the children of local friends.

After rapid growth, Angie eventually took the decision to franchise her business. Monkey Music became a member of the bfa in 2003.

Today, over 12,000 families attend Monkey Music classes each week in over 300 venues across the country.
