Subway® brand opens 2,500th UK store in Keynsham

Published: 07 August 2017

Keynsham Subway StoreThe Subway® brand today opened its 2,500th store in Keynsham, Banes, unveiling the new Subway® Fresh Forward design. Following the global launch of the new format in Manchester in March, the store near Bristol is the second pilot featuring the design to open in the UK. This location features a bright new colour palette and a revamped fresh veggie display as a focal point, building on the brand’s iconic salad and veggie serve.

The new pilot store will create seven full-time and two part-time local jobs. Earlier this year, the Subway® brand announced plans to increase the number of stores in the UK and Ireland to 3,000 by 2020, creating around 5,000 new jobs.

Owned by family franchisees Stephen and Sue Pasco, the Keynsham store is one of 16 Subway® stores they operate, employing 145 people across Bristol, Gloucester, Somerset and Wiltshire. Their son, Ryan Pasco has grown up around the Subway® business starting out as a Sandwich Artist™ and has recently moved onto the development team, ensuring the future of the business remains well and truly in the family.

Commenting on the new opening, Sue Pasco explained “We’re hugely proud to be able to open the brand’s 2,500th store and that it is one of the first UK stores featuring the new look design. The modern design will offer customers more of what they love about Subway® stores – highlighting our bread baked in store daily, cookies and some of our veggies in modern displays – whilst offering great value and fresh, varied menu options.”

The new Subway® Fresh Forward design offers customers an enhanced and modern Subway® brand experience, with clean lines and customer focused touches such as digital menu boards, free to use charging ports and special displays for cookies, bread baked in store daily and freshly cut vegetables.

Following its opening in Manchester in March, the first UK Subway® Fresh Forward design pilot store is already proving a success with increased revenue and traffic, as well as positive reactions from customers. Development Agent for Subway® stores in the North West, Deirdre Anderson commented; “The reaction from customers to the new look store has been incredibly positive and it’s following through in terms of increased sales and footfall into store.”

Brought to life with input from franchisees and customers from around the world, the Subway® Fresh Forward design is expected to be seen in eight stores in the UK by Christmas, with all existing Subway® stores to be refurbished in the new décor style over the next few years.
