The world’s oldest Cornish pasty maker opened the first of the two new bakeries on 27 July at the Marlands Shopping Centre in Southampton city centre. The store is the largest franchised Warrens Bakery to date and coincides with the launch of the new Bright and Beautiful summer ranges. Franchisee Farhat Abbas also owns the bakery’s Eastleigh store, which opened earlier this year.
He says: "After a busy few weeks in Eastleigh, the second bakery will provide a perfect centrally located pit stop for breakfast, lunches and coffees on the go.
"Offering something new yet traditional to Southampton’s city centre, with each store opening, we are also creating an extra 10 job opportunities for the local community. With a family of stores planned in and around Southampton and Winchester, we expect this will rise to around 100 new employees over the next few years."
The second store will open in Bridgwater on 14 August and will be run by local businessman James Tucker.
James says: "With Warrens I know where the product comes from – something that is important to me – and I can follow its journey all the way from production to the first delicious bite. "Knowing that Warrens still use the same fresh, local ingredients and hand-crafted skills for every product really sets them apart from any other bakery."
Having recently been shortlisted as one of the top three craft bakery businesses in the UK at the 2017 Baking Industry Awards, Warrens Bakery has big expansion plans over the coming years. It recently announced plans to open 20 more stores in the South West by 2022.
Warrens Bakery chairman Mark Sullivan adds: "With the rise in popularity of craft bakery and British baking, we are delighted that we will be able to share our recipes and award-winning sweet and savoury bakes with even more customers in Southampton and Bridgwater. "We can’t wait to greet customers who have previously enjoyed our craft range of sweet and savoury bakes in the South West, as well as meet new faces who may well be visiting us for the first time. "We are immensely proud of our heritage and it is extremely important to us as we grow that we do so with experienced and trusted partners."
