Theresa May opens 50th Right at Home office

Published: 06 April 2018

Theresa May spoke of her admiration for the work of community care teams as she attended the official opening of the 50th Right at Home UK office.

The prime minister spoke with several Right at Home caregivers, along with local business owner Kevin Lancaster and Right at Home UK CEO Ken Deary, at the opening event.

Right at Home Reading and Wokingham District, which provides homecare services from its base in Twyford, is the second Right at Home franchise in Theresa May’s Maidenhead constituency. Together, both businesses are looking to recruit a further 100 caregivers over the next 12 months.

During her visit, the prime minister spoke with the homecare experts about the difference that appropriately timed visits can have to a client’s mental wellbeing and overall quality of life.

The Right at Home team talked about how their experiences of care, in previous personal and professional circumstances, had led them to seek a different solution that put the needs and choices of vulnerable people first.

The Twyford team, which started supporting clients across the region in January, is the 50th branch in the growing Right at Home UK network.

During the visit, the prime minister also met Maidenhead office owner Scott MacRae, whose business was named one of the top 10 providers in South East England by HomeCare.co.uk.

Theresa May says: “It was heartwarming to hear how passionate Right at Home’s caregivers are about the difference they make to people’s lives. By being that regular visitor and building that friendly, trusting relationship with local people living safely in their own homes, they are providing them with as much independence as possible. It was wonderful to see just how much satisfaction caregivers get from helping others.

“Being a carer no doubt has its challenges, but the training and support provided by Kevin and his team to enable caregivers to help some of the most vulnerable people in our society is something that should be commended.”

Commenting on the prime minister’s visit, Kevin Lancaster, who set up the Twyford territory, says: “We were delighted to welcome Mrs May to our offices and were grateful that she took the time to speak with our fantastic caregivers who deserve huge recognition for what they do on a daily basis.”

Ken Deary adds: “Right at Home UK is dedicated to delivering services that our clients and their families across the UK can trust. We are keen to work with the government to support the challenges faced in the wider social care sector.”
