Radfield Home Care franchisees double targets after just nine months

Published: 06 April 2018

After just nine months of trading, two Radfield Home Care franchisees are already outperforming their business plan.

Essex-based Radfield Home Care Havering began trading in July 2017, but has already seen a peak of almost 500 hours of care delivered in a single week – over double their targets. As a result, franchisees and cousins Jennie Bardrick and Lisa Cable are now making significant profit each month, allowing them to reinvest in their team and expand into a second territory in neighbouring Brentwood.

Jennie says: “The last nine months have been an incredible learning curve. It was a fantastic milestone to even deliver 100 hours of care per week but to have got to a peak of 500 hours in early 2018 was just unbelievable.

“Winning the Judges’ Award at the Thames Gateway Business Awards in 2017 was a fantastic platform for us, and subsequently winning Havering’s New Business of the Year Award earlier this year has given us some great visibility and brand awareness in the community.

“Most of all, though, it’s our clients and carers and what they say about us that has supported our growth – word of mouth is extremely powerful. Their support and recommendations have been overwhelming and it’s heartwarming to read our client reviews. We truly believe in focusing on our people and we will continue to value our carers for the fantastic work they do and the high quality of care that they deliver to our clients.”

Radfield’s director and co-founder Dr Hannah MacKechnie is delighted by Lisa and Jennie’s success, but puts it firmly down to their care-centred attitude.

She says: “Since we first met Jennie and Lisa at a franchise exhibition last February, we could tell they wanted to enter the industry for inspiring reasons. Now, over 12 months on from when we first met, their attitude is testament to their success.

“They are so committed to ensuring their clients are at the centre of everything they do, and this attitude has left them with an amazing reputation in their local area that has led to numerous word-of-mouth referrals. They both naturally align with all of Radfield’s values, highlighting not only the importance of a strong ethos in this sector, but also the potential of the Radfield Home Care model.”

Jennie adds: “We both come from corporate backgrounds – Lisa from asset management and me from strategy consulting – and we simply wanted to do something where we could give back.

“We did plenty of research into both franchising and homecare, which showed the huge opportunity in the market, and although there is lots of competition we have been determined to bring a fresh perspective to the industry. We were inspired by Radfield’s franchisors Hannah and Alex’s values, in particular their family values, and it’s been an incredible journey building our own Radfield family in Essex.”

With a decline in local authority-provided homecare services and funding, Radfield Home Care specialises in elderly care within the private marketplace, meeting the demands of the ageing population turning to the private market to meet their care needs.

After 26 years operating a residential care home, Hannah, a qualified GP, and her brother, Alex Green, launched Radfield’s homecare services in 2008 and operated four company-owned offices over the following eight years.
