Upper Crust reveals franchising plans

Published: 27 July 2018

Baguette restaurant chain Upper Crust has launched its franchise model and is looking for entrepreneurs to enter into a franchise agreement to expand the brand.

Established over 30 years ago, there are nearly 100 Upper Crust units across the globe in Australia, Austria, Canada, Cyprus, Egypt, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Norway, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the UK and the US.

Upper Crust has been honing its recipes for producing tasty baguettes, made to a traditional family recipe and with no preservatives, fat or sugar. Keeping up with food trends is very important in the business and this can be seen with its limited-time offer with celebrity chef James Martin and partnership with Heinz.

Upper Crust will offer direct store support within the following areas:

  • Brand operations manuals
  • Team member training
  • Store construction and layout guidelines
  • Annual marketing calendar
  • Ongoing programme of new product development

Upper Crust’s marketing plan is based on seasonality and is punctuated with special events linked to the main calendar events of the year. Three seasonal products are launched throughout the year to ensure that the brand remains on trend. The Upper Crust proposition is woven into all elements of the brand: the design of the stores, the visual merchandising and all customer touch points.

Upper Crust’s prominent store locations and extensive range give the brand broad appeal across all customers. The brand has been developed in a range of different size formats, from kiosks through to dine-in café environments. The team works hand in hand with you to develop the right concept for the space available.

Upper Crust also offers the same flexibility when it comes to product development, working with you to understand your needs based on customer and cultural requirements and local ingredient availability.

Startup costs are low compared with similar businesses; these will vary dependent on factors such as rent, unit size and location.

Upper Crust’s business model delivers an excellent return on investment. It is looking for experienced food and retail operators to enter into an area development franchise agreement. Upper Crust will work with you to establish a pipeline of units across your chosen location.

With stores across the globe, franchisees will have access to a team of highly trained people who will help and support you. Full store training will take place in an Upper Crust store; online training and support system can be accessed via a head office portal to make sure you are kept informed and up to date on all product and brand development.

Upper Crust is owned by SSP (Select Service Partner) operating in over 30 countries, with offices in 19 countries. SSP has over 2,500 outlets and an international portfolio of over 450 international, national and local brands and concepts, including Millie’s Cookies and Ritazza.
