Rob Pickering has always felt torn between the money available to work within large businesses and the pull of being his own boss. But, almost 10 years ago, Rob launched his ActionCOACH franchise after experiencing a bolt of admiration when hearing about the company’s 14-point culture. This year, he experiences that same elation as he has even more reason to celebrate.
In October 2018, Rob signed the new ActionCOACH Firm Builder licence for Reading, where he will focus on a 10-year development plan in an exclusive territory of 10,000 businesses. Part of that requires Rob to build a team of employee business coaches, and his first recruit, Lisa Chaffey, has made a huge impact on his business and the clients she coaches.
Lisa’s success was recognised recently at the UK ActionCOACH Franchise Conference & Awards, where she was named Coach of the Year against the tough competition of more than 200 coaches.
Rob says: “Lisa and I have worked together for almost as long as I’ve been an Action Coach. Her company, Pickle Marketing, used my coaching services and I used her marketing services to the point where we decided to join forces and work under one roof.”
Lisa continued with her forte of marketing and worked alongside the ActionCOACH team. But Rob had already seen her potential and invited her to many ActionCOACH support events over the years. In October 2017, Lisa met with another franchise partner, Cassandra Bodington, and felt inspired to become Rob’s first employed business coach.
Just 18 months in, Lisa already has a long list of things to be proud of but it’s her clients who are the real winners.
Lisa says: “I started working with a client on a one-to-one basis in April and she has gone from working on her own to employing two people. She’s increased the company turnover and changed her mindset completely, realising that some simple changes can make all the difference. She now says that I’ve ‘unlocked’ her, and it feels great to get that feedback and allow others to benefit from the ActionCOACH systems.”
