Based from home, and with no need for stock or staff, Partners generate new opportunities within their area through networking, contacts, and introducers. They use their expertise to manage their customer portfolio whilst growing an ethical and successful business.

As part of the WPA Group, a not-for-profit organisation, the Healthcare Practice don't seek to make a profit. This approach is reflected in the low investment fee to become a Healthcare Partner. There are no monthly management service fees to pay and no cost to renew your Practice.
Stephen McGarry – Planning for the long-term
It’s the personal touch which is so important for WPA Healthcare Partner Stephen McGarry. And his customers – who remain loyal to him year after year – agree.
Stephen, 47, became a WPA Healthcare Partner in 2011 after spending more than a quarter of a century working for a big general insurer and a major bank’s assurance company.
What propelled Stephen towards WPA, one of the UK’s leading medical insurers, was a desire to be self-employed - and to work for a different kind of company, one that isn’t focussed on profit. "I wanted to work for myself rather than for shareholders. Because WPA is a not-for-profit organisation you know that the customer is the centre of all that WPA does – and that’s what is important for me too."
And he wanted the backing of a supportive company framework. As well as a training course when he first joined WPA, Stephen points out that for the first two years, he had a mentor who he could turn to for advice. Indeed, his mentor was always at the end of the telephone and visited regularly.
“Everyone at WPA wants new Partners to succeed. To have the comfort of knowing there’s always someone who has had similar challenges to bounce ideas off was invaluable” Stephen added.
Stephen’s customers range from individuals and families to business owners large and small and, for him, it is particularly important that he meets all of his customers face to face – and that’s what makes WPA different from other organisations. “From my experience, keeping in touch is really important. My customers like to meet me regularly to discuss and review their health insurance needs and I think that’s what makes our service stand out from other insurers.”
He adds, "I am not just a sales person but the local face of WPA. Keeping customers is as important as winning them. With a retention rate in excess of 95pc, my experience is that if you look after your customers then they look after you. If they have any queries, I am always their first point of contact. Better still, my business is growing primarily through the recommendation of customers."
For Stephen, working as a WPA Healthcare Partner also means he has a better work-life balance than he had with his previous employers. "I have plenty of flexibility working for WPA. I’ve got a 20 month old son and I can tailor my work around him so I can spend plenty of time seeing him grow."
And Stephen’s thoughts are never far from his little boy. "When I became a WPA Healthcare Partner, my plan was to build the business up for ten or 15 years, sell on and retire with my wife. That’s lengthened a bit since my son arrived. Now my plan is to build up my business so that when he is older, there will be a business for him to take on."
