Home Instead provides specialist dementia training in partnership with Alzheimer’s Society

Published: 26 September 2022

Franchise company, Home Instead is making pledges to provide its employees across their UK home care network with additional, dedicated dementia training from the Alzheimer’s Society this year.

The commitment follows news that, as of June 2022, dementia is now the leading cause of death in the UK with around 900,000 people living with the condition, according to the Office for National Statistics (2021).

World Alzheimers Month

With Home Instead’s home care professionals already City & Guilds qualified in dementia training, Home Instead are expanding the offer of training to all its office employees as well.

Employees will be invited to participate in Champions in Dementia Care, a bespoke course, developed and delivered by the Alzheimer’s Society.  The training aligns with Tier 2 and 3 of Health Education England’s Dementia Training Standards Framework. It will equip office teams with the enhanced knowledge and skills necessary to support and plan care for clients living with dementia.

“We are delighted to be widening our offer of dementia training to encompass our wider teams,” commented Ruth Brown, Business development Director, “This new training recognises the prevalence of dementia across the UK and the need for us as leaders in the homecare industry to continue taking steps in supporting those living with dementia.

“One person develops dementia every three minutes in the UK, so it is vital that we also adapt as a community to ensure we are fully inclusive to those with the condition.

“This training will give our local office teams a real boost in dementia expertise that can be extended into their wider community involvement and charitable activities.”

The course will boost office employees’ awareness of issues such as how to respond to distressed behaviour, while ensuring equality, diversity and inclusion in dementia care.

Right from the first communication with a client enquiry, the local Home Instead teams in all their territories across the UK will be able to ensure a smooth journey from the care consultation stage and beyond.
